Sod Installation & Lawn Replacement

A Perfect Lawn In One Day.

Professional sod installation with proper soil prep, grading, and watering setup. We lay it right so it roots fast and stays green. Serving Salt Lake County and the Wasatch Front.

Sod & Lawn Installation

Sod fails when the prep is skipped. We don't skip it.

Most sod problems — poor rooting, patchy brown spots, uneven surface — trace back to inadequate soil preparation. Dumping fresh sod on compacted clay and calling it done guarantees failure. We do it differently.

We start by assessing your existing soil, removing old lawn material, amending if needed, then grading for proper drainage before a single roll of sod goes down. The result is a lawn that roots in weeks and looks great for years.

What we install.

  • Kentucky Bluegrass — the Utah standard for a dense, dark-green carpet lawn
  • Tall Fescue blends — more drought-tolerant, stays green in Utah's dry summers
  • Bermuda grass — heat-tolerant option for south-facing yards
  • Full lawn replacement — demo dead or weedy lawn, prep, and new sod
  • New construction lawns — starter lawns from bare dirt on new builds
  • Overseed & patch — fill bare spots without replacing the whole lawn
Our Process

How We Install a New Lawn

Sod installation done right takes more than rolling out grass. Here's what we actually do.

01

Soil assessment

We evaluate soil type and compaction. Utah clay soils often need amendment — we address this before anything else.

02

Old lawn removal

Existing dead or weedy lawn is removed by sod cutter or skid steer. Clean slate = better rooting for the new lawn.

03

Soil amendment & rototilling

Topsoil, compost, or gypsum added as needed and tilled in to loosen soil and create an ideal rooting environment.

04

Grading & leveling

Surface graded to proper slope for drainage, edges defined, any low spots filled. A flat, properly draining surface is critical.

05

Sod installation

Fresh-cut sod delivered and installed same day. Staggered seams, tight joints, edges cut clean. Rolled after installation for good soil contact.

06

Watering setup & handoff

We give you a detailed watering schedule for the establishment period — typically 3–4 weeks before you reduce frequency.

Why Mountain View

Sod that actually takes root

Same-day fresh sod

We coordinate delivery and install on the same day. Sod that sits rolled up for days roots poorly — we don't let that happen.

Proper grade first

We grade your lawn before sod goes down — no lumpy surfaces, no pooling water zones, no "speed bumps" in the backyard.

Soil prep included

Utah clay is hostile to new lawns. We amend when needed — starter fertilizer, gypsum, compost — based on what your soil actually needs.

Irrigation-ready

We coordinate with your existing or new sprinkler system so the sod gets the right water from day one.

Clean edges

Edges against hardscape, beds, and fences are cut precisely. No ragged gaps where weeds creep in.

Watering guide included

Every install includes a written watering schedule. How often, how long, when to transition to normal watering.

Common Questions

Sod Installation FAQs

How much does sod installation cost in Utah?
Sod installation typically runs $1.50–$3.50 per square foot installed, depending on prep work required, sod variety, and lot accessibility. A typical 2,000 sq ft backyard lawn is $3,000–$7,000 all-in. We provide firm written estimates after an on-site walkthrough.
When is the best time to install sod in Utah?
Sod can be installed spring through fall in Utah. Early spring and early fall are ideal — cooler temperatures reduce heat stress on new sod and reduce watering frequency needed during establishment. Summer installs work fine with proper irrigation.
How soon can you walk on new sod?
Avoid heavy foot traffic for 2–3 weeks while roots establish. Light foot traffic for maintenance (watering adjustments, etc.) is fine after the first week. By 3–4 weeks with proper watering, the lawn can handle normal use.
What grass type is best for Utah?
For most Salt Lake County lawns, Kentucky Bluegrass or a Bluegrass/Fescue blend is the standard. Tall Fescue blends use less water and stay greener through dry spells. We recommend based on your sun exposure, irrigation setup, and how much maintenance you want to do.
Do you remove the old lawn first?
Yes — and this is important. Installing new sod over dead or weedy grass is a waste of money. We remove the old material, prep and grade the soil, then install. The extra prep step is what makes the new lawn succeed.
Do I need a sprinkler system first?
You don't need an in-ground system, but you do need a way to water heavily and consistently for the first 3–4 weeks. If you're installing sod, it's a good time to also install irrigation — we can do both in the same project.
