Drainage Solutions & Grading

Stop Standing Water For Good.

French drains, yard regrading, catch basins, and swales designed to move water away from your home and foundation. Serving Salt Lake County and the Wasatch Front.

Drainage & Grading

Water in the wrong place destroys yards — and foundations.

Standing water, soggy lawn sections, water pooling against your house, erosion cutting channels through your yard — these aren't cosmetic problems. They're signals that water isn't being directed properly, and left alone, they lead to foundation cracks, dead grass, and landscape damage.

We assess the entire drainage picture on your property, design a system that routes water correctly, and install it with the proper depth and slope so it works every spring thaw and summer storm.

Drainage solutions we install.

  • French drains — perforated pipe in gravel trench, buried to intercept subsurface water
  • Yard regrading — reshaping your lot so surface water flows away from structures
  • Catch basins — surface inlets that collect runoff from low spots and drain it underground
  • Downspout extensions & dry wells — route roof runoff away from the foundation
  • Swales & dry creek beds — engineered surface channels that also look natural
  • Channel drains — slot drains for patios, driveways, and hardscape areas
Our Process

How We Solve a Drainage Problem

Every drainage fix starts with a proper site assessment — we don't guess at the solution.

01

Site assessment & water mapping

We walk the property after a rain or simulate water flow to map where it enters, pools, and exits. No assumptions.

02

Drainage design

We design the system — French drain routes, outlet locations, surface re-grading plan, and any structures like catch basins needed.

03

Excavation & grading

Trenching for subsurface systems, or bobcat work to regrade surface flow — depending on your site.

04

System installation

Pipe, geotextile fabric, gravel backfill, and proper slope. Clean connections to outlets, daylight exits, or dry wells.

05

Surface restoration

Topsoil, seed or sod over disturbed areas. Hardscape repairs where applicable. We leave the yard looking better, not worse.

06

Flow test & walkthrough

We test the system with water and walk you through the outlet locations and any maintenance steps to keep it clear.

Why Mountain View

Drainage done right the first time

Foundation protection

Water against your foundation is the #1 cause of structural damage. We design drainage that pulls water away from the structure.

Engineered slope

Every drain we install has minimum 1% slope to outlet. Water won't back up and create new problems downstream.

Geotextile fabric

Wrapped pipe in geotextile fabric prevents sediment migration that clogs the system over time.

Aesthetic solutions

Dry creek beds and decorative swales solve drainage problems while adding visual interest to your yard.

Complete restoration

We restore disturbed turf and hardscape — you don't end up with a drainage solution surrounded by ugly dirt.

Root-cause fix

We solve the actual drainage problem — not cover it up. Our installs address grade, soil, and water volume together.

Common Questions

Drainage FAQs

What is a French drain and do I need one?
A French drain is a gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe that intercepts underground water before it reaches your foundation or pools in low spots. You likely need one if you have consistently wet areas of lawn, water seeping into a basement, or yard sections that stay soggy long after rain.
How much does drainage installation cost in Utah?
Cost depends heavily on the size of the system, depth required, and surface restoration needed. A basic French drain for a typical residential yard runs $2,000–$6,000. Larger regrading projects or catch basin systems cost more. We provide firm written estimates after an on-site assessment.
How deep are French drains buried?
Typically 18–36 inches deep depending on where you need to intercept water. Shallower drains handle surface water migration; deeper drains address groundwater. We determine depth based on your soil, water source, and outlet location.
Where does the water go after it enters the drain?
To a proper outlet — typically daylighted at a lower point on the property, connected to a storm drain (where allowed), or routed to a dry well. We never drain toward your neighbor's property or create a new problem elsewhere.
Will you need to dig up my whole yard?
For French drains, we excavate a trench only — typically 12–18 inches wide. For regrading, we may use a skid steer across larger areas. We minimize disturbance and fully restore turf and plantings in disturbed zones.
Can drainage be combined with other landscape work?
Yes — and it often should be. Fixing drainage before installing a patio, sod, or irrigation system prevents those investments from being undermined by water. We recommend addressing drainage first in any major landscape project.
